I recently finished season 4 of “The Wire.” In The Atlantic, Mark Bowden examines the first four seasons of the HBO series and its creator, David Simon, and muses on how the last season — which features the Baltimore Sun newspaper — might play out
In the process, Bowden’s essay becomes a sort of mediation on journalism that veers into unexpectedly personal territory. I believe this essay irked some fans of the show, who claimed Bowden was simply retaliating against Simon for his vocal hatred of some of Bowden’s journalist friends.
