“Rules Broken” — All-Time Quarterback

Years before Death Cab frontman Ben Gibbard became half of the Postal Service project, he gathered a busted Casio and some out-of-tune guitars and wrote some unassuming lo-fi gems under the name All-Time Quarterback.
“Rules Broken” makes the most use of keyboards — the majority of the album is simple guitar, including a cover of the Magnetic Fields’ “Why I Cry.”
I like the melodic “Rules Broken” and the narrative about a burgeoning punk-rock band makes me smile, from the great opening line to lyrics such as, “They had the whole town gettin real tattoos.”
