Flight Of The Conchords [Madison, Wis., 4.26.09]
Somehow I managed to get tickets in the 7th row for when the Flight of the Conchords played their sold-out show at the Overture Hall on April 26.
I wasn’t quite sure how their act would hold up as a “concert” for the entire evening, but it was amazing — even better than I thought it might be.

They were extremely funny and their dry humor, wit and spontaneity were firing on all cylinders as they riffed hilariously off each other’s between-song banter and shouts from the audience. The songs sounded pretty good too, for what it’s worth.
Despite the HBO show’s run-on joke about the mediocrity of “formerly New Zealand’s fourth most popular guitar-based comedy folk duo,” Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement proved Sunday night that they are undeniably polished entertainers.
Comedian Eugene Mirman was a great opener, starting off with some older material before jumping off into new, similarly surreal territory, such as his awesomely demented campaign against Delta Airlines for losing his luggage and and repeatedly screwing him over on customer service. Mirman is one of my favorite stand-up comics working today. He’s worth checking out, if you haven’t. [Info at Sub Pop]
